UNusual variations of an Easter Egg

Egg Birdfeeder

Designer: Jim Schatz
Watching birds dine at a bird feeder is a diversion that never gets old. It can be done in the city or the country, can be relaxing or exciting, and, like every other daily activity, benefits from good design. Named one of Fortune magazine's 25 Best Products of 2004, the Egg Bird Feeder attracts the attention of birds and humans alike with its bright colors and organic shape. Handcrafted of ceramic earthenware that is cast, glazed and fired, the birdfeeder's glossy-surfaced egg shape prevents squirrels from getting a grip, appropriately melding beauty and function. Weatherproof spun aluminum fittings provide perches for four or more birds from which to feed. The Bird Feeder is easily disassembled and refilled, and hangs from a sturdy aluminum cable. Made in U.S.A.

Egg Flat

Designer: Josh Jakus
The Egg Flat (2007), constructed of industrial wool felt, evolved out of an experiment in bending surfaces along seams. The result is a new take on a familiar shape and functions as a handy storage spot for keys, fruit or other small items. The Egg Flat indeed folds flat for easy storage and several can be set in a line or in the shape of a grid to create a larger storage area. The pressed industrial wool comes from factory excess – material that would otherwise be thrown away – so color and texture may vary slightly. Made in U.S.A.

Porcelain Egg Vasesicon
The egg has always been symbolic of new beginnings. And what better way to celebrate the wonder of life than with these quirky vases full of fresh blooms? The seamless lines of the creamy porcelain are juxtaposed by the sudden sunburst crack in the vase drawing the eye into its grassy green interior. The simplicity of this vase will look beautiful with a bouquet of flowers, but it can also be appreciated on its own - for it captures the perfect shape and feel of nature's design as well as being a symbol of life and hope.
